New Desk!

Hurray! I finally got the desk I have been wanting for a really long time! We have been researching and hunting for the right sized roll top desk with all the right compartments. Thanks to my friend Lori emailing me about an ad she saw...this is what we got! It is beautiful and really is what we wanted but for over half the cost of new. Unfortunately, it brought with it the smell of cigarette smoke. I have been working hard to get rid of it but it is still there. I know it is getting better but then again, maybe we are just getting used to it. If anyone has any advice post it in a comment! I will be checking back! So far I have tried washing it down good with Murphy's Oil Soap and then again with Orange Glow Cleaner. I have put baking soda out and last night tried cotton balls soaked in vanilla.

That desk is beautiful and I don't think it looks too tall.

It looks beautiful! I read you should cover it in baking soda - rub it into every nook and crany and let it sit overnight. Then vacuum and clean it up the next day.

The desk is beautiful - only an incredibly intelligent person can work at a desk like that. New desk and new glasses make new IQ! Woohoo! Here's an odor removal tip straight from Martha Stewart: "Try placing a glass or ceramic dish filled with plain white vinegar in your cabinet and leaving it there overnight, or until the smell vanishes. A more agressive approch would be to wipe the insides of the cabinets with a solution of one part vinegar and one part hot water. Once you've eliminated the [musty] smell, you can help prevent its return by keeping a sachet of dried lavendar-or any other flower with an aroma you find pleasing-inside the cabinets."
That's just so Martha.

Hee hee... I just had a private chuckle wondering how Mitch would feel about the "lavendar aroma." Then again, what aroma would he find pleasing? Pine needles or maybe wet dog? :-)
